New Book Week Quiz!

What is the next line of the Australian national anthem?

Quiz 6 tested whether Australians actually know the words to our own anthem, then followed it with one of the all-time great logic puzzles.

What line comes after 'golden soil and wealth for toil' in the anthem?

Our home is girt by sea. Yes, girt. It means encircled, and it is quite possibly the only time you will ever use the word. Most of us are word-perfect until exactly this line, then descend into confident humming.

How do you find the heavy marble with a balance scale?

Nine identical marbles, one heavier, and a balance scale. The elegant answer: split them into three groups of three and weigh two groups against each other. If they balance, the heavy marble is in the third group; if not, it is on the heavier side. One more weigh of that group's marbles finds it. Two weighings, guaranteed.

What country is Adidas from?

Germany. The brand was founded by Adolf "Adi" Dassler in the town of Herzogenaurach in 1949. Bonus fact for the sports fans: his brother Rudolf started Puma in the same town, and the family feud split the whole village.

That was Quiz 6: girt, marbles and a German sibling rivalry. Australian civics has never been so varied.
