What do we call an astronaut from Russia?

A cosmonaut. Same job, different badge. The word comes from the Russian space program, while astronaut is the American term that Australia borrowed along the way.

At 52% correct this was as close to a coin flip as a quiz question gets. It also produced one of the biggest state splits of the quiz, so somewhere out there is a state quietly bragging.

Can you name the World Cup countries from their three letter codes?

Football tournament puzzle image

Have a go at the picture before reading on. The codes were AUS for Australia, TUR for Türkiye, BRA for Brazil, MAR for Morocco, NED for Netherlands, JPN for Japan, MEX for Mexico and RSA for South Africa.

The tricky ones were NED and RSA, because the code comes from the country's own name rather than the English one. 63% of players got all eight, which is a strong effort.

How many bits are in a byte?

Eight bits make one byte, the little chunk a computer uses to store a single letter. A kilobyte is officially 1,000 bytes, though computers often count it as 1,024.

This was the hardest question of the whole quiz. Only 32% of players got it, which made Tech the week's toughest topic by a mile. Time to quiz the kids at the dinner table.
